The three main cornerstones of AEF services are functional analysis of behavior, behavior teaching, and enrichment solutions. We strive to provide only the highest quality, state-of-the-art information available in all of these fields. Our behavior teaching philosophy is deeply and firmly rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis; we aim at using behavior teaching strategies which are the most positive and least intrusive, according to the guideline listed by Alberto & Troutman (2003) for work with children. Specifically, our teaching and training approach is based on positive reinforcement. Services include:

  • Parrot behavior consultations via email, telephone, and in-home (the latter within driving area)
  • Private sessions to demonstrate behavior training with individual caregivers
  • Seminars with lectures on parrot behavior, husbandry, and enrichment
  • Workshops on behavior training with hands-on activities
  • Small study groups in private settings focusing on desired topics
  • Organization of educational events (symposia, conferences) with guest speakers on topics from husbandry and conservation to behavior and avian research
  • Consultations and related products for indoor and outdoor avian enrichment solutions (see also our Store)

We specialize in training husbandry and medical behaviors, and welcome the opportunity to work with veterinarians, shelter and zoo staff, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and other avian professionals to develop programs uniquely tailored to their needs and those of their clients.  While our focus is predominately with companion parrots, we will assist individuals in any way we can concerning other species.  The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are universal across species.
